Bowie County has 22 confirmed virus cases

Miller County up to 8, officials say

TEXARKANA, Texas — There were 22 cases of infection with the new coronaviru­s in Bowie County as of Friday, according to local public health authoritie­s.

The Bowie County case count has more than doubled since Tuesday, when the locally announced count was nine. The Joint Operations Center managing the crisis for the county and Cass County, Texas, reported the new tally in an afternoon news release.

With the exception of Smith County — which had counted 53 cases as of Friday, according to the State Department of Health Services — Bowie County had the highest number of cases in Northeast Texas. Tyler is Smith County’s largest city and the county seat.

The Bowie County cases are evenly split between men and women at 11 each. The release further breaks down the cases by age group: one age 20-29, six age 30-39, four age 40-49, five age 50-59, three age 60-69 and three age 70-79. Five Bowie County coronaviru­s-posi

Red River County was the only Texas county in the region to have reported no cases by Friday.

Gregg County, which contains Longview, had eight cases as of Friday. Harrison County had five. Cass County had four. Hopkins, Lamar and Upshur counties had three cases each. Franklin, Morris, Titus and Wood counties had one case each.

In Arkansas, Miller County had eight cases as of Friday, according to the state Department of Health. Hempstead County had reported one to four cases, while Little River and Lafayette counties had not yet reported any positive tests.

Louisiana has emerged as one of the nation’s most-infected states, with more than 10,000 cases and 370 deaths reported.

Caddo Parish, Louisiana, which contains Shreveport and borders Cass County, Texas, reported 377 positive cases resulting in 10 deaths as of Friday. Bossier Parish had 95 cases, and De Soto Parish had 46.
