Ashdown clears first round

FOUNTAIN LAKE, Ark. — Ashdown defeated Jessievill­e in the first round of the Class 3A South volleyball tournament in four sets, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22, on Monday.

Lannah Huddleston led the Lady Panthers with 19 kills, nine points and nine blocks.

Vonee Thomas added 12 kills and seven blocks for Ashdown, while teammate Porsha Randle had 42 assists, 10 points and five kills.

The Panthers will face Episcopal Collegiate at 5 p.m.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Kemiya Beasley and Anna Lee each had 10 service points as Texas Middle School’s eighth grade A team defeated Pine Tree, 25-14, 25-19.

Aamireyon Moore and Kianna Dorsey each slapped seven points, but the Lady Tigers lost the eighth grade B contest, 25-23, 25-15.

Mattison Wiley and Abigale Shults each smacked in eight service points to lead TMS to a 25-13, 25-14 victory in the seventh grade A match.

Kiahna Forsyth fired in 11 service points, and the seventh grade B win went to the Tigers, 25-14, 25-19.

Lady Hawks’ 7th A squad sweeps NL

PARIS, Texas — Whitney Thornton served in seven points, but Pleasant Grove’s eighth grade A squad fell to North Lamar, 25-15, 27-25.

The Lady Hawks finished at 13-1 and are the co-district champions.

Brooklyn Gibson led PG with six service points, but the Lady Panthers won the eighth grade B match, 25-18, 15-5.

Julianne Naples had 11 service points as Pleasant Grove’s seventh grade A team clinched the district title with a 25-17, 25-14 sweep over North Lamar.

Simone Williams smacked in nine service points for the Hawks in the seventh grade B contest, and the teams split the match, 25-13, 13-16.

Hooks crowned district champs

HOOKS, Texas — Hooks defeated Red Lick in the first eight grade match, 20-25, 25-16, 25-20.

Kinsley Birdwell led the Lady Hornets with 18 points and teammate Lilyan Birthright added 13 points.

Mollie Fisher led the Lady Mustangs with 17 points.

With the win, Hooks finishes at 7-0 and also district champions.

Red Lick won the second eight grade match, 25-16, 17-14.

Angel Dibrell and Kaitlyn Sellers each finished with four points apiece for the Hornets.

Jordan Womack served in seven points, and the Mustangs won the first seventh grade match, 25-13, 25-15.

Sara Graham led the Hornets with four points.

Red Lick defeated Hooks in the second seventh grade match, 25-23, 25-13.

New Boston sweeps Redwater

NEW BOSTON, Texas — New Boston swept Redwater in their eighth grade A match, 25-12, 25-20, 25-23.

Macayla Parker led the Lady Lions with 11 points and Kayden Bassett led the Lady Dragons with five points.

New Boston defeated Redwater in the seventh grade A match, 25-18, 25-22.

Macey Erwin led the Lions with seven points and Kindle Clark led the Dragons with nine points.

Lady Cardinals’ JH falls

DETROIT, Texas — Maud’s junior high fell to Detroit, 25-9, 25-15.

Tigers’ 7th B dominates in win

LONGVIEW, Texas — Damarion Cooper had two rushing touchdowns to go with a 2-point conversion as Texas Middle School’s 7th B squad shut out Pine Tree, 28-0.

Dontae Akins recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Tigers (5-1), while teammate Ty’quandrew Williams had a rushing TD. Karnell Jolly added a 2-point conversion run.
