Leopards unlucky versus Pittsburg
Pittsburg’s Desmond Allen’s two touchdowns in the first half was enough to spoil Liberty-Eylau Senior Night at Harris Field, as the Pirates defeated the Leopards, 30-16, Friday.
Allen’s first score came on a 3-yard run, after a Leopard roughing the passer penalty. His second end zone appearance came on a 15-yard scamper.
Allen finished the game with 115 yards on 34 carries and two touchdowns.
Shannon Roy stopped a Pittsburg scoring drive as time expired in the first half.
The Pirates collected eight first downs in the first half, and Liberty-Eylau had none at intermission.
On the opening possession of the second half, Pittsburg’s Keontae Burns took a Leopards interception 99 yards, to give the Pirates a three-score lead. Burns finished the game with three interceptions.
The Leopards regrouped and cut into the Pittsburg lead on their next possession.
El-Amin Greer caught a 13-yard pass from Isaiah Cross for the Leopards’ first score of the game with 5:10 left in the third quarter.
Greer finished with two grabs for 20 yards and a score.
Jaylon Jimmerson added to the Pirates lead with his 5-yard quarterback dive. Jimmerson completed 5 of 11 passes for 90 yards. Jimmerson also rushed 10 times for 27 yards and a touchdown.
Deshun Dickerson caught a 60-yard pass from Cross to cut into the Pirates lead with 5:53 left in the game. Deshun Dickerson led the Leopards receivers with three grabs for 85 yards and a score.
Cross completed 6 of 14 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Cedric Dickerson led the Leopards rushing with eight carries for 40 yards.
The Leopards travel to Gilmer next week to take on the Buckeyes.
