Joe Raffaelli, age 90, died

Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at his residence.

He was born May 22, 1927 in Texarkana, Texas. He graduated from Texarkana Sacred Heart Academy in 1944 and then served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0025. Joe graduated from Oklahoma State University in January of 1952 with a Bachelors Degree of Science. He retired from Day & Zimmermann, Inc. at Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant as Vice President and General Manager in February 1989 at which time he also served on the Board of Directors. During his tenure as General Manager at Lone Star he served on the board of many charitable and civic organizati­ons including United Way and Texarkana Work Center. Joe also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross for a number of years. He was an avid sportsman, spending as much time as possible hunting and fishing.

Mr. Rafaelli was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Helen Rafaelli

Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Moja Yvonne; two daughters: Rebecca Bashy and husband Aboud of New Haven, Ct, and Robin Morse and husband Jim of Texarkana, Texas; two sons: Jodie Raffaelli and wife Michelle and Dwayne Green and wife Angie of Texarkana; ten grandchild­ren: Mica and Quentin Morse, Brady and Caitlin Dunklee, Chase and Drew Raffaelli, Leah and Logan Green, Lauren Dawson and husband Widmark, and Karlee McDonald; six greatgrand­children: Claire, Libby, Knox, and Eden Ann Morse, McKinlee McDonald and Johanna Dawson. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: J.H. and Jo Higgs, Dewie and Ruby Higgs, Kathlene and Orvis McRae, and Faye Landgraf.

A special thanks to Hospice of Texarkana for the dedicated service they gave to Joe.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under the direction Chapelwood Funeral Home with Chaplin Karen D. Marks officiatin­g. The family will receive friends following the service.
