Bulldogs run over Arkansas Pulpwood

The Texarkana Bulldogs had an easy time against Arkansas Pulpwood by sweeping a doublehead­er at George Dobson Field Friday evening with a pair of shutouts.

Texarkana (12-3), run-ruled the visitors, 10-0, in four innings in the opener, and took the scheduled five-inning second game, 2-0. behind a one-hitter by Rory Baugus.

FIRST GAME Texarkana 10, Arkansas 0

After scoring two runs in the first inning, the Bulldogs exploded for seven runs on five hits in the second frame.

Rodrigo Zaldivar led off the inning with a base hit and scored on Chris Lyles triple to left-center. Lyles also scored on the play when the ball got past the third baseman.

Sutton drew a walk and Connor Allred singled. Bryan Moore laid down a sacrifice bunt, but all runners were safe when Pulpwood failed to get the runner at third.

Jacoby Ross then singled home two runs for a 6-0 advantage. After the second out, Triston Brooks was hit by the pitch and Zaldivar singled home the final two runs for a 9-0 lead.

The Bulldogs failed to score in the third inning, but ended the game with a run in the fourth. Ross led off the inning with a triple and scored one-out later on Zaldivar's double.

Jake Thompson went the distance, allowing just one hit.

Zaldivar and Ross paced the Bulldogs' nine-hit attack with three hits each.

SECOND GAME Texarkana 2, Arkansas 0

A dropped fly ball by the Bulldogs' second baseman cost Liberty-Eylau's Baugus a no-hitter.

Thomas Prince reached on the error before Baugus retired the next two batters which would have been the third out.

Jamison Milner then drilled a linedrive to left-center that Chris Lyles made a diving attempt but unable to make the catch. Prince was tossed out at third on the play to end the game.

The Bulldogs scored their two runs on two hits in the third inning, singles by Jakob Hearne and Chris Sutton after a walk to Lyles.
