Cossatot park offers several winter programs

-

Cossatot River State Park has several upcoming events in early December.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.3, the park will feature a lost and found program. The program was developed to help prepare children for a situation that will hopefully never happen—being lost in the outdoors. Children will learn five basic skills that will help them to survive and be found should they ever become lost in the outdoors. In addition, the program stresses preventative actions children can take to avoid becoming lost in the first place. The meeting place for the program is the sandbar day use parking lot.

At 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec.4, visitors can learn how the animals stay warm during the winter. The meeting place is the amphitheatre by the visitor center.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, visitors can learn about the animal’s eating habits. The meeting place is the visitor center.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec.10, there will be a “Growing Up Wild, Exploring Nature with Children Workshop.”

This early childhood education program builds on a child’s sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Call 870-385-2201 to register by Dec.9. Bring a sack lunch and dress for the weather. The meeting place is the visitor’s center legacy room.

Cossatot River State Park is in Wickes, Ark., north of De Queen.
