Hornets thump DeKalb, 79-39; L-K wins

DEKALB, Texas—Hooks outscored DeKalb 44-16 in the first half en route to a 79-39 win on Tuesday at Bear Gym.

The Hornets continued to apply the pressure with a 17-8 scoring run in the fourth quarter. DeKalb was only outscored 18-15 in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too large to overcome.

Kevin Romero drained three 3-pointers and totaled 22 points for the Hornets. Tanner Hamilton posted 19 points, and Jimmie Houston added 10. Hooks 21 23 17 18 — 79 DeKalb 8 8 8 15 — 39

McLeod 49, Karnack 10

KARNACK, Texas—Boe McLaurie led the way with 19 points as McLeod held Karnack to 10 total points. The Longhorns were at their best early, netting 25 points in the first quarter enroute to winning their third straight game of the year.

AVINGER, Texas—The game was close in the first quarter, but Avinger turned on the jets in the second quarter and came away with a big win.

Lake Loyd was lights out from beyond the arc, knocking down five 3-pointers and racking up 17 points.

Jeremiah Clark recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Zack

Walker sunk in 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in Queen City’s win over Romeo Prep in overtime.

The Bulldogs held Romeo Prep to just two points in the extra period and coasted to a win.

Jimmy Larry added 14 points for QC, and Dakota Carver had eight points and six rebounds.

Queen City will face Bloomburg on Tuesday. Linden-Kildare 68, Winona 59

LINDEN, Texas—LindenKild­are found its shooting range in the second half, outscoring Winona 34-23 in a comeback victory at Tiger Gym.

Four L-K players ended the non-district contest in double figures. Jordan Craver was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points. Teammate Cortez Peterson followed with 16 and Tedran Linwood and Chance Cogswell contribute­d 14 each. Winona was led by Joe Marsh and Corey Jackson with 14 each.

LInden-Kildare trailed 36-24 at halftime before starting its offensive spurt.

The Lady Dragons overcame an 11-5 deficit in the first quarter and battled back to take the win.

Kayla Burks led James Bowie with 11 points.

HOOKS, Texas—Kaylee Price scored a game-high 14 points, Haylee Price added 11 and Kylen

Roberts threw in 10 points to spark Hooks to a win over nondistric­t opponent Ore City at Hornet Gym.

Hooks (2-1) broke the game open in the second quarter when it outscored Ore City 20-5 to go up 33-17 at halftime. The offensive surge widened a slim Lady Hornets 13-12 advantage after the first eight minutes of play.

The Lady Hornets score 20 in the fourth quarter for the final score. Tiera Cook had 11 for Ore City.

Hooks downed Ore City 47-10 in the jayvee game. Brandi Hout poured in 16 and Korey Brooks scored 10 points. Ore City 12 5 7 9 — 33 Hooks 13 20 5 20 — 58

NEW BOSTON, Texas— Marquesha Thompson fired home 22 points to trigger New Boston to a easy victory over Atlanta at Lion Gym.

The Lady Lions (1-1) got additional support from Madison Thomas and Jacey Thomas, who scored 11 and 10 points, respective­ly.

Atlanta trailed by eight after the first quarter and never threatened, despite finishing the game with a 20-17 run in the fourth quarter. Dani Birmingham and Crystal Jones scored 15 each for the Lady Rabbs.

WINONA, Texas—Winona jumped out to a 34-15 lead over Hughes Springs going into halftime.

The Lady Mustangs outscored Winona, 17-8, in the third quarter to cut the deficit down to eight points, but Winona caught a second wind in the fourth quarter and coasted to a win.

Destiny Gonzales led Hughes Springs with 12 points. Courtney Higgins added eight points of her own.

Prescott 47, Hope 46

PRESCOTT, Ark.—Both teams fought until the finish, but Prescott managed to just squeeze past Hope in the end.

Zoie Otwell led Prescott with 10 points. Oshianna Pree had a big night for Hope with 24 points, and Jasmine Farris added 15.

Devin Koger’s nine points pushed Prescott to a 28-18 win in the JV contest.

Avery 38, Sulphur Bluff 12

SULPHUR BLUFF, Texas— Avery applied the defensive brakes on host Sulphur Bluff from the onset in a rout by the Lady Bulldogs, who jumped out to a 13-2 lead while holding the host team to single figures in all four quarters.

Taylor Bowles, who signed a letter of intent with to play basketball at Ouchita Baptist earlier this week, led with 17 points and Shelby Stanley followed with 13.

Avery (1-0) never trailed. They resume play Thursday at the Mount Vernon tournament against Van. Avery 13 12 12 1 — 38 Sulphur Bluff 2 7 3 0 — 12

Karnack 39, McLeod 30

KARNACK, Texas—McLeod was held to a high of eight points and scored just 19 in the remaining three quarters after scoring a team best 11 points in the initial eight minutes to remain winless.

The teams were tied at 23all entering the fourth quarter when Karnack outscored the Lady Longhorns 15-7 down the stretch. Jessica Keener led with 15 and Kendal Sheppard added nine. Subvarsity North Heights advances

IDABEL, Okla.—North Heights picked up a 40-14 win over Haworth to advance to the championsh­ip game of the Idabel Tournament tonight at 7 p.m. against Ashdown.

Tyrie Black had a game-high 12 points for the Razorbacks in the victory over Haworth.
