Inter Miami CF has taken social distancing to the next level.

In the midst of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, which has led to Major League Soccer suspending all matches with a target return date of May 10, the club altered its logo to encourage social distancing.

The new logo separates the white herons, which were connected in the original logo.

“COVID-19 has stopped the world in its tracks and as a result, it has never been more important to heed the advice and direction of the authorities to stand for unity and participation in social distancing,” Chris Allan, Inter Miami VP of Community Engagement, said in a statement. “Inter Miami CF wants to leverage the reach of our club, players and ownership group to amplify and share this message with those who follow us in South Florida and around the world.”

Inter Miami, an MLS expansion team that was six years in the making, had their March 14th home opener against the L.A. Galaxy at Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale postponed because of the league-wide suspension of play. The club opened its inaugural MLS season with losses to Los Angeles FC and D.C. United on the road.

MLS remains focused on playing the entire 2020 season and is considering pushing back the end of the season and playing the MLS Cup in December. Inter Miami will have at least nine games affected because of the league’s suspension of play. In addition to altering its logo, the club will be adding content from players and coaches to its new membership app to give fans an inside look at how the team is preparing and spending their time until their return to the field.
