Braves, Rangers: The Braves acquired right-handed reliever Chris Martin from the Rangers for LHP Kolby Allard. Martin is 0-2 with four saves and a 3.08 ERA in 38 innings this season. He has 43 strikeouts with just four walks. Martin has the best strikeout-to-walk ratio of any pitcher in MLB to throw at least 30 innings this season, according to ESPN. Allard is 7-5 with a 4.17 ERA in 20 starts for Triple-A Gwinnett. In 2018, he appeared in three games with the Braves and went 1-1 with a 12.38 ERA in eight innings.

Cubs, Blue Jays: The Cubs acquired RHP David Phelps from the Blue Jays for 24-year-old minor league RHP Thomas Hatch. The Blue Jays also agreed to send cash to the Cubs to offset some of Phelps’ contract. The 32year-old tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow March 17, 2017, during his final pitch in a spring training outing against the Angels, had surgery March 26 and didn’t return to the major leagues until last month. He had a 3.63 ERA in 17 relief appearances with the Blue Jays, going 0-for-2 in save chances . ... Blue Jays right-handed closer Ken Giles got a cortisone shot in his pitching elbow to treat what the club called mild inflammation. The Blue Jays said an MRI showed no structural problems, and that the shot would provide Giles with “a long-lasting effect.” Huffman also said Giles was cleared to resume throwing in two days, though when he returns to action remains unclear. Giles is 2-2 with a 1.54 ERA and 14 saves.

White Sox: SS Tim Anderson was activated from the IL and batted seventh in the White Sox’s game against the Mets. Anderson was hitting .317 with 11 HRs and 37 RBIs in 70 games before spraining his right ankle June 25 . ... 3B Yoan Moncada exited the game with right hamstring tightness. The White Sox announced that he’s day to day. Moncada entered the game hitting .301 with 20 HRs and 59 RBIs. He missed time with back and knee issues in June.

Pirates: Bullpen coach Euclides Rojas was suspended two games for violating his contract, the Pirates announced. The Pirates said they will have no further comment on the suspension. It was the second such suspension this month involving the bullpen. Reliever Keone Kela also served a twogame suspension. Yahoo Sports reported that Kela was suspended due to an altercation with Hector Morales, the team’s director of cultural readiness and peak performance coach.

Rockies: Jon Gray allowed three hits over eight innings to win for the first time in a month, and the Rockies beat the Dodgers 9-1 on Monday in Denver. It was just the Rockies’ third win in 11 games this season against the defending NL champions. Nolan Arenado had a two-run single in a five-run fifth, David Dahl hit a two-run HR in the eighth, and Ian Desmond finished a HR short of the cycle. Gray (10-7) joined Jorge De La Rosa as the only pitchers in team history with at least 10 wins in four seasons — Gray has done it four years in a row.
