Quick slant: Florida Atlantic finally has some positive momentum as winners of two straight. In a mostly disappointing season coming off a dominant first year under coach Lane Kiffin, the Owls can become bowl eligible with their sixth win. About FAU (5-5, 3-3

C-USA): Kiffin was not pleased with the schedule, sending the Owls 1,300 miles to Denton for a Thursday night game on a short week following their win at home against Western Kentucky. Starting 0-4 on the road this year, FAU won its first game away from

Boca Raton two games ago at FIU. About North Texas (7-3, 3-3): The Mean Green are coming off a loss where they blew a 28-0 lead to lose to the Monarchs, 34-31. If bouncing back from that is not enough motivation, North Texas lost twice — once in the Conference USA Championship — to FAU last year.

Three things to watch

■ The Owls have much to deal with — from the long travel on a short week to the cold. How do they handle it?

■ FAU should continue to lean on its running game. When opposing defenses get a healthy dose of backs Devin “Motor” Singletary and Kerrith Whyte over the course of 60 minutes, they wear down by the end.

■ Quarterback Chris Robison has not played well on the road. Does being close to his hometown, with more than 50 family and friends in the stands, settle him down in an otherwise hostile environment?
