Man keeps driving after getting shot
Driver then lost control of car, crashed into tree and died
A man who was driving a car on Northwest 27th Avenue just outside Fort Lauderdale was shot late Sunday. He kept driving and eventually crashed and was pronounced dead at a hospital, the Broward Sheriff ’s Office said Monday.
BROWARD COUNTY — A man driving on a street near Fort Lauderdale stayed behind the wheel after getting shot and continued to drive before crashing into a tree and dying, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The shooting happened just after 10 p.m. Sunday as the man, who hasn’t been identified, was driving an orange older-model Oldsmobile south on Northwest 27th Avenue.
At least one person opened fire on him, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The agency hasn’t said if investigators think the shooter was in another vehicle or on foot.
From 27th Avenue, the driver went east on Sunrise Boulevard for a short distance before losing control of the car and hitting a tree. He was taken to a hospital, but didn’t survive.
“No other passengers suffered serious injuries,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said by email.
The other people in the car were not identified, but family members said they were the victim’s girlfriend and son, 8, WTVJ-Ch. 6 reported.
