AROUND THE HORN

-

■ Royals: The Royals pounded All-Star ace Luis Severino and beat the Yankees 10-5 in the opener a day-night doubleheader at Yankee Stadium. Trying for his major league-leading 15th win, Severino (14-4) instead was pulled after Lucas Duda’s tworun homer made it 6-0 in the fifth inning. Aided by three double plays, rookie Brad Keller (4-4) went 52⁄3 innings for the win one day after his 23rd birthday. He gave up four runs on nine hits, a day after his start was pushed back because of a rainout. Brian Goodwin, acquired from the Nationals last weekend, kept up his big hitting for the Royals, launching a three-run homer into the second deck in right in the eighth that made it 9-5. Giancarlo Stanton hit a 447-foot, two-out, tworun homer in the Yankees fifth.

■ Cardinals: Marcell Ozuna hit a grand slam during a six-run first inning, Miles Mikolas pitched six strong innings and the Cardinals beat the Cubs 6-2 in front of a season-high crowd of 47,514 at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals improved to 9-6 this season against the NL Central-leading Cubs, who have lost four of six overall. Ozuna hit his second grand slam this season and the fifth of his career. Jose Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk from Jose Quintana (9-7) and Ozuna followed with his 11th home run. Yairo Munoz added an RBI double. The last time the Cardi- nals scored six runs in the opening inning was eight years to the day, on July 28, 2010, against the Mets.

■ Twins, Astros: The Astros won the bidding for Twins RHP Ryan Pressly, one of the hottest bullpen commodities on the trade market. The Astros will send two prospects — RHP Jorge Alcala and CF Gilberto Celestino — to the Twins for the right-handed Pressly. Pressly was 1-1 with a 3.40 ERA (472⁄3 innings pitched, 18 earned runs), 19 walks and 69 strikeouts for the Twins this season. He has made 51 appearances, tied for the second most in baseball. He is making $1.6 million this season and is under team control through 2019.
