Douglas edges Aquinas in to reach semifinals

Samantha Diaz’s third RBI of the game, a fifth-inning bases-loaded walk, pushed Douglas past St. Thomas Aquinas 5-4 in a winners-bracket quarterfin­al in the Roger Jones Kissimmee Klassic blue bracket.

The Eagles advance to play the Eustis-Oakleaf winner at1p.m. onSaturday.

Douglas improved to 11-3, while Aquinas dropped to 16-2.

Gianna Lovito pitched a complete game to improve to 2-0 at the Klassic.

In the consolatio­n side of the blue bracket, Pembroke Pines Charter, the No. 1 team in the Miracle Sports all-classifica­tions softball poll, split their two games.

In the early afternoon, they rebounded from their second loss of the season in by defeating Land ‘O Lakes and their Tennessee-commit pitcher Callie Turner 4-2.

The Jaguars were down 1-0 in the third inning when they got to Turner, behind a tying RBI single by Charter pitcher Eliza Gonzalez and then a two-run hit by Angelina Pascual.

The Gators responded with a run in the fourth, but the Jaguars regained the two-run advantage in the bottom of the fifth.

Gonzalez had two hits and pitched a complete game, while Alexandra Good tacked on two singles aswell.

The Jaguars (17-3) finished with an evening consolatio­n semifinal against Lakewood Ranch, in which theywere beaten 6-1despite Karley Borges’ 3-for-3 game.

Pines Charter will close out their weekend Saturday at 3 p.m. against the loser of the St. Cloud-Timber Creek game on Friday night.

In a gold-bracket quarterfin­al, Cooper City (16-2) rallied froma 2-1 deficit with four fourth-inning runs enroute to toppingAuc­illa Christian 5-2 to advance to face the winner of Canterbury-Riverview in a winners-bracket semifinal Saturday at 1p.m.

Seven Cowboys had one hit each, with Jasmin Herrera, MichelleAd­elman and and Adriana Crespo with an RBI each.
