S. Fla. firms among top workplaces

Ultimate, JM Enterprise­s, Baptist Health climb in Fortune poll

The three South Florida headquarte­rs that typically make Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” all moved up in rank on the 2018 list.

Ultimate Software, the Westonbase­d software developer with $940.7 million in 2017 revenue, jumped to the No. 3 spot from No. 7 a year ago. JM Family Enterprise­s in Deerfield Beach ranked No. 51, up from No. 55 in 2017.

The biggest jump came from Baptist Health South Florida, based in Coral Gables, moving up to No. 25 from No. 97 a year ago.

The companies received high marks from their workers in anonymous surveys conducted by Great Place to Work, a San Francisco-based organizati­on, for Fortune magazine. A “great place to work” is one where “employees trust the people they work with, have pride in the work they do, and enjoy the people they work with,” according to Fortune.

Other companies on the top 100 list with large numbers of employees in South Florida include:

Stryker, which has operations in Davie since acquiring Mako Surgical in 2013.

CHG Healthcare, a health staffing company that has employees in Boca Raton.

Publix Supermarke­ts, which has employees throughout the region.

Kimley-Horn, a planning and design firm with employees in West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Coral Gables.

The top South Florida company on Fortune’s list is Ultimate Software, which employs 1,700 in Weston. In 2017, Ultimate was named the top technology workplace in the United States for the third year in a row by Fortune.

On the top 100 list, Ultimate was noted for its employee benefits, which include matching employees’ 401(k) retirement fund contributi­ons at a rate of 40 percent, and fully paid medical and dental costs. The company also rewards top performers with trips to destinatio­ns including the Bahamas and Disney World in Orlando, according to Fortune.
