Athletic director sentenced for video voyeurism

The man who led the high school athletic program at Palm Beach Gardens High had a dark secret: recording videos and taking photos of a 17-year-old girl undressing and in the nude.

Bill Weed pleaded guilty Wednesday to video voyeurism charges and is heading to prison for 18 months, to be followed by eight years of probation as a sex offender.

Palm Beach County Judge Laura Johnson warned the 51-year-old Weed that any violations of his plea deal could land him back in court on three felony counts punishable by up to 15 years behind bars.

While working at the school, Weed planted a remote-controlled camera inside the victim’s bedroom digital alarm clock, Assistant State Attorney Justin Hoover said.

An SD memory card captured 149 videos and 35 photos taken from January 2016 until the teen discovered the device in February 2017.

“The victim did have a reasonable expectatio­n of privacy in her own bedroom,” the prosecutor said.

Weed resigned from the Palm Beach County School District last June, following his arrest. He had served as the high school’s athletic director for 11 years.

Under the plea agreement, Weed pleaded guilty to video voyeurism, attempted promotion of sexual performanc­e by a child, and unlawful use of twoway communicat­ions device.

He was handcuffed and immediatel­y taken into custody. He did not make any remarks in the courtroom.
