WELLINGTON — Boca Raton senior forward Kendra Cashion scored two goals, while Dayana Martin added a third as the visiting Bobcats downed Wellington, 3-0, in a girls soccer game Thursday night.

Boca Raton (9-2) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when senior Alex Baxley served Martin at the top of the penalty area and Martin turned and ripped a shot from 22 yards out for her fifth goal of the season in just her third game back from injury. Senior Alex Baxley had two assists. Freshman Lara Larco had four saves for her sixth shutout of the season.

“It was tough because I missed a large part of the season,” said Martin, a UCF commit who missed the first seven games of the season with a hamstring injury, one of eight early-season injuries the Bobcats have overcome. “Coming back felt really good because this team works really hard. … I am really glad to be back and try and help the team get back to where we were last year.”

The Bobcats won 23 straight games last season until losing in the Class 5A state title game to two-time defending champion Oviedo, 3-1. Among those wins were a 3-1 regular season victory over Wellington, and a dramatic 3-2 doubleovertime victory in a rematch in a regional semifinal — the only two losses for the Wolverines last season.

“It was a huge game for us,” said Cashion, a Troy commit, who has a teamleading 14 goals following her scores in the 39th and 66th minutes. “It was a huge turnaround game for us [after a 2-1 loss to Miami Lourdes last Friday] and we were expecting big things tonight and everyone did awesome.”

Wellington (11-3-1) has outscored the opposition this year 76-8, but has been shutout in its three losses — a 2-0 District 11-5A loss to Park Vista, a 1-0 setback to Douglas and then the Bobcats.
