BASEBALL: The Indians agreed to a two-year, $16 million contract with freeagent 1B Yonder Alonso, according to reports. Alonso hit .266 last season for the A’s and Mariners, becoming a first-time All-Star and setting career highs with 28 homers and 67 RBIs . ... The Nationals signed free-agent 1B Matt Adams to a one-year, $4 million contract and finalized a two-year, $10 million deal with RHP Brandon Kintzler. ... Quarterbac­k Ryan Tannehill, who is on injured reserve, has remained heavily involved with the team, which is a bit unusual for a guy on the IR list. Christense­n said Tannehill has looked good the times he’s seen him working out. He said Tannehill also attends quarterbac­ks meetings with his notebook and offers comments.

“I’ve been impressed with him,” Christense­n said. “Every meeting when we come in to watch the practice tape he’s right there in the front row.”

Special teams coordinato­r Darren Rizzi said he thinks safety/special teams standout Michael Thomas played at a Pro Bowl level this season. However, New England’s Matthew Slater, a seven-time Pro Bowl pick who only played in seven games this year, got the berth.

“I think it’s a little bit of an imperfect system when a guy that plays less than half the games is in the Pro Bowl,” Rizzi said. “But that’s not a knock on Matt Slater. That’s maybe a knock a little bit more on the voting process.”

Pro Bowl selections are determined by votes: onethird fan voting, one-third player voting, and one-third coach voting.
