Solomon released from hospital

-

South Carolina State’s Tyvoris Solomon, who collapsed on the court during a game at North Carolina State last week, was released from the hospital.

N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts said Thursday he had just spoken with Solomon and his father as they headed home. Rex Hospital spokesman Alan Wolf confirmed in an email to The Associated Press that Solomon had been discharged.

Wolf also released a statement from the Solomon family, thanking medical trainers who assisted Solomon on the court Saturday and well-wishers. It said the redshirt senior was “looking forward to resuming a normal life, eventually returning to school and making every second count.”

Emergency medical personnel administered chest compressions to Solomon before he was removed from the court on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

Three straight losses, including two at home to unranked opponents, has Florida coach Mike White reassessing everything about the No. 5 Gators.

But he knows why Florida has struggled of late.

“None of it’s been shocking,” White said. “We’re just a very average defensive and rebounding team, and when we’re not making shots it’s hard to beat anybody.”

The Gators shot 37 percent Wednesday in their loss to Loyola-Chicago and hit just 2 of 19 3-pointers. They are shooting 25 percent from behind the arc during the losing streak.

“No way I saw this coming,” White said. “We’ve tried to hammer the point home, especially in the past 48 hours: ‘Let’s make sure your first shot is a really good one.’ ”

According to LaVar Ball, his sons LiAngelo and LaMelo have signed with an agent, ensuring neither will play in the college ranks. The elder Ball told ESPN on Thursday his plan is for them to play on the same team overseas.

LiAngelo never played a regular-season game for the Bruins after being indefinitely suspended last month for shoplifting during the team’s season-opening trip to China. AP
