Other ways to know if you qualify for rebates
Jay Sharp, of Palm Beach County, says he appreciated a recent column that alerted him to rebates he could request for items already in his pantry, thanks to ClassActionRebates.com, a website that provides links to class-action settlements and claim forms for consumers.
“Coincidently,” he shared via email, “I use all of those products listed, and being on disability, the rebates and coupons will help a lot. If you’re aware of any similar situations, please keep me/us informed.”
Looking around, I see another source to check for class-action rebates is Consumer Action’s website (Consumer-action. org/lawsuits or Bit.ly/ ourrebate). For example, it says that if you bought certain Van’s-brand frozen breakfast products (such as its gluten-free blueberry waffles) between 2009 and June 16, 2015, you may be eligible for up to $18 due to a settlement over its use of the term “all natural.” Get a claim form at www.milorosettlement.com or call 888-980-9431 for details.
In another example, if you bought a Nike+ FuelBand between 2012 and June 17, 2015, you may be eligible for $15 cash or a $25 gift card to use at Nike stores.
Get a claim form or details by calling 877-2318644 or going to Nikefuelbandsettlement.com.
You also should go to ClassActionRebates.com time to time for updates. For example, it now lists a Canon inkjet printer settlement that could bring a rebate estimated at $50. For details, call 888-256- 5633 or go to Canoninkjetprintersettlement.com.
Treasure hunt: It can be fun to type your name at MissingMoney.com to see whether the government is holding money you forgot you had, such as from a closed bank account, stock sale proceeds, a customer overpayment, or an insurance company premium refund. I once claimed $50 from a rebate-type gift card. Alternatively, go straight to Florida’s Bureau of Unclaimed Property (888-258-2253 or Fltreasurehunt.org). Search for family members’ names and type common misspellings, in case a check meant for “Johnson” or “Gonzalez” was written to “Johnston” or “Gonzales.”
