Tigers: After two Triple-A starts, Justin Verlander is ready to make his 2015 debut Saturday against the Indians. Sidelined with a triceps injury since spring training, the former Cy Young winner is coming off a 15-12 season with a 4.54 ERA, second-worst of his career. ... The Tigers selected Michigan State OF Cam Gibson, son of 1984 World Series hero Kirk Gibson, in the fifth round of the MLB draft.

Cardinals: OF Matt Holliday, who’s hitting .303 with three home runs and 25 RBIs, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right quadriceps strain. The Cardinals recalled righthande­r Miguel Socolovich from Triple-A Memphis. Holliday was injured charging for a fly ball Monday. He tripped and fell forward on his right knee. He grabbed his knee while on the ground. It’s his first trip to the DL since July 2013.

Cubs: Free-agent reliever Rafael Soriano has agreed to a minorleagu­e contract with the Cubs and would get s $4.1 million, one-year deal if added to the major-league roster. The 35-yearold right-hander has 207 saves and a 2.85 ERA in 585 majorleagu­e appearance­s.

Giants: Hunter Pence could be headed back to the disabled list. The right fielder, who didn’t make his season debut until mid-May because of a fractured left forearm, has not played since June 2 because of a sore left wrist. He was out of the starting lineup again Tuesday against the Mets.
