Reds: Devin Mesoraco, on the DL with a sore hip that prevents him from catching, will go to the minors to learn how to play left, then try it in the majors. ... RHP Jason Marquis was designated for assignment. RHP Raisel Iglesias (oblique) went on the DL.

Blue Jays: Free-agent RHP Rafael Soriano is among targets to bolster the pitching staff, GM Alex Anthopoulos said. The Jays have blown nine saves, and their team ERA of 4.41 is the AL’s worst. Soriano has 207 saves.
