STAMFORD — A 29year-old man wanted on a federal parole violation charge led officers on a foot chase around the Stamford train station until he was incapacitated by an officerwielded stun gun, police said.

Police also recovered a loaded handgun during the chase.

Capt. Richard Conklin said Stamford police have been working with the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force and Norwalk police over the past five weeks to locate Michael “Murdah” McFarlane, a convicted felon who was wanted on federal and local arrest warrants.

Late July 22, Conklin said police learned that McFarlane, who has lived in New Haven, Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford, was allegedly scheduled to arrive at the Stamford train station around midnight.

Officers in Stamford’s Narcotics and Organized Crime squad and city patrol units set up surveillance of the track where McFarlane was expected to arrive.

Conklin said when McFarlane arrived and police began to move toward him, the 29-year-old “took off running across tracks and platforms,” leading police on a lengthy chase.

During the chase, McFarlane was seen allegedly throwing a sweatshirt on the ground, Conklin said. Inside the sweatshirt, Conklin said police found a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

According to Conklin, police also found 10 folds of fentanyl-laced heroin and one gram of crack cocaine on McFarlane after an officer used a stun gun and “incapacitated” McFarlane, ending the chase.

McFarlane was sent to the hospital for treatment and was later charged with criminal possession of a pistol, criminal possession of ammunition, interfering with police and two counts each of violation of a protective order and possession of a controlled substance.

McFarlane, who has been convicted on felony assault and attempted armed robbery charges, was held on a $500,000 bond. He was remanded to federal custody on an outstanding violation of parole charge.
