Beautification event
The Community Beautification Committee will hold its annual Awards Presentation at 2 p.m. today at the Courtyard by Marriott-downtown Springfield, 100 S. Fountain Ave.
The Business of the Year Award will go to Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers Restaurant, 1335 W. First St., for dedicated and outstanding beautification efforts. The winning location has beautiful plantings and is kept clean of litter and debris year-round. Their business was awarded a CBC Neighborhood Improvement Award in 2021.
CBC Business Awards will go to Challa Properties, 2355 Derr Road; Mcdonald’s Restaurant, 2994 Derr Road; Mundy’s Diner, 920 Selma Road; and Wendy’s Restaurant, 2214 N. Limestone St. These business sites are kept clean of litter and debris year-round and have neat plantings of shrubs, trees and flowers.
Several Special Awards will go to additional business locations and individuals for their various efforts contributing to the CBC mission to enhance the beauty of the city.
Home of the Week owners to be recognized include Joe and Cecily Morrow; Randy and Mary Beth Mcfarland; Mark and Karlene Keating; Rodney and Carolyn Coleman; Gary C. Ferguson; Peter and Carolyn Young; Frank J. Demma; Dale and Joyce Eichelberger; Latasha Bullock; Trudy Tillman; Joy and Monica Spencer; and David and Monda Zeller. CBC Judges have chosen the Home of the Year from this group and the winner will be announced during the awards presentation.
There are 385 CBC awards to be presented this year, including the twelve Home of the Week winners, the Home of the Year winner, first year CBC Shield awards to 38 new participants and numeral awards to former winners. The public is invited to the presentation and there will be door prize drawings at the end of the program.
