Waldorf man charged with manslaughter
Woman was killed in July crash, possibly involving alcohol
A 21-year-old Waldorf man has been charged with manslaughter for allegedly driving while impaired and crashing his vehicle with two passengers inside, resulting in a woman’s death.
David Landin Alford, 21, of Waldorf was charged with negligent manslaughter, criminal negligent manslaughter and driving a vehicle with alcohol in blood violation of regulation.

Bettis, 20, of Waldorf was pronounced dead on the scene of a car crash in the area of Piney Church Road in Waldorf.
Around 8 a.m. July 28, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported that a car crash took place in the vicinity of Piney Church Road near Renner Road, according to a prior Maryland Independent article.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, Alford, was traveling north on Piney Church Road in a Honda Civic when he lost control of the car and hit a utility pole. According to the press release obtained from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the driver and two other passengers — a 19-year-old male and a 20-year-old female — were transported to a hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.
On Dec. 15, Alford was charged with negligent manslaughter and the court filed a bench warrant for his arrest, for him to be brought before the court and held without bond.
