Baseball and softball
The capital region of the National Team Identification Series of USA Baseball will hold one-day tryouts with players aiming to be named to the capital’s 11-U, 13-U, 14-U, 16-U and 17-U teams, which then will compete, in their respective age groups, against 15 other regions from the across the country.
Local tryouts will be held at Scardina Baseball Field, 499 Ski Lane in Millersville. 11-U tryout date is May 7. 13-U tryout date is May 8. 14-U tryout date is May 14. 16-U and 17-U tryout date is May 15.
The cost is $150 and players are only required to register for one tryout date. For more information or to register, go to www.capitalntis.com.
RBI/AAU Mid-Atlantic Conference is looking for baseball teams for its 16-U and 19-U divisions.
Eight teams will be selected for these divisions with an AAU Maryland state tournament at the end of the season for all eligible teams. Team MaxBat will hold a national recruiting combine from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13 at Riva Area Park in Davidsonville. The event is run by current college coaches, players and Major League Baseball scouts. The cost is $200 per player. Team Max Bat Wood Bat Series tournaments will be held July 15 to 17 and Sept. 23 to 25 followed by the Max Bat Halloween Bash Wood Bat tournament Oct. 28 to 30, all at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf. For more information, call 240-925-6237.

Basketball
The Little Eagles Boys Basketball Camp for children 8 to 14 will occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 20 to 24 and June 27 to July 1 at North Point High School. St. Mary’s College of Maryland will hold basketball camps this summer.
The Chris Harney Basketball School will have its traditional two weeks of instructional day camp, July 17 to 20 and July 25 to 28, and its session of gym rats on July 29. Also, the college has partnered with the University of Maryland basketball program to bring a session of the Mark Turgeon Basketball Overnight Camp to St. Mary’s City, from July 20 to 23.

Football
Two-time Super Bowl champion Gary Clark and NFL legends will hold a three-day youth and family training camp beginning June 21 in Charles County. There is no cost to register to attend, but space is limited. For more information, go to yourNFLexperience.com.
Golf
The Southern Maryland Optimist Junior Golf Championships will conduct five nine-hole tournaments for children 10 to 18 (based upon player’s age as of July 30, 2016).
The tournaments will be held May 23 at Wicomico Shores Golf Course in Mechanicsville, May 31 at Hawthorne Country Club in La Plata, June 2 at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course in Lusby, June 6 at Breton Bay Golf and Country Club in Leonardtown and June 9 at White Plains Golf Course. The events begin each day at 3:30 p.m. with registration at 3 p.m. Participants will be fitted in until 5 p.m., so they do not need to be taken out of school.
