David Bowie: Finding Fame
When he died in 2016 at age 69, David Bowie almost universally was regarded as a genius and a Renaissance man, not to mention the epitome of coolness. As Francis Whately’s 2019 documentary reveals, however, that definitely was not the case in his early career, when he was frontman for a band called The Lower Third, which tended to unfortunate covers such as “Chim Chim Cheree” from Mary Poppins. Still, even then there were signs that Bowie was destined to be a heroic outlier in his art.

In the season finale, Caden (Billy Howle) leaves the rehabilitation center after grueling weeks of work, returning to London and an uncertain future both personally and professionally. Meanwhile, his mother, Kathryn (Helen McCrory), ponders the offer that Max (Richard Gere) has made to her. The proposal definitely is a tempting one, but she worries about how Caden will react to the news, not to mention whether she can even trust Max to keep his word.

Gustavo Dudamel, the celebrated conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, returns to the gardens of Austria’s Schönbrunn Palace to conduct one of the world’s most sublime orchestras in “Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert 2019,” which highlights music from both European and American conductors. Pianist Yuja Wang, the guest artist, joins the orchestra for George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
