From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

Oct. 29, 1917: Those who travel through the forests at this time of the year, when pine needles and leaves of a variety of trees are plentiful, are warned to be careful with their lighted matches, cigarettes, cigars and camp fires.

“We are now confronted with three fires in the Jemez division,” said Forest Supervisor Joseph C. Kircher this afternoon,” and one of them is quite large. It is covering several hundred acres and a force of 20 men is fighting it. The firms are between Gallinas and Coyote.”

Oct. 29, 1967: Work is already well under way on the new Santa Fe Opera Theater, scheduled to be completed by next June 30. Last week footings for loggia-balcony section were completed and Modern Construction Co. crews were pouring concrete for a utility tunnel which will carry lighting wires under the main seating slab from the stage area to the balcony lighting control room.

Oct. 29, 1992: Santa Fe city councilors Wednesday approved spending up to $190,000 to help pay for repairs to the badly deteriorated Camino Alire bridge, which they were told is in imminent danger of collapsing into the Santa Fe River.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which will do the repair work, will pay up to $500,000 of the repair costs, with the city footing the rest of the bill.
