No. 6 Indiana women erase late deficit, down Purdue in OT

Indiana head coach Teri Moren knows she can count on one thing.

“As long as there is time on the clock, we are always going to be in the game,” Moren said. “The people in that locker room will not quit.”

Grace Berger scored 24 points and Aleksa Gulbe added 21 as the sixth-ranked Hoosiers rallied to beat Purdue 73-68 in overtime Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Hoosiers (14-2, 6-0 Big Ten), missing two starters, overcame an eight-point deficit in the final 31⁄2 minutes of regulation.

Tied 60-60, Indiana got the first six points of OT on 3s by Gulbe and Ali Patberg and proceded to win its ninth straight game.

“We had a shot, they just made a couple more plays than we did,” Purdue head coach Katie Gearlds said. “We needed to get stops and we didn’t do that . ... They’re (No. 6) for a reason.”

Abbey Ellis scored 19 and Brooke Moore 18 points for Purdue (11-6, 2-4). Madison Layden added 15 points, but made just 5 of 15 shots.

#1 South Carolina 61, Arkansas 52: Aliyah Boston and Destanni Henderson each had 19 points as the visiting Gamecocks (17-1, 5-1 SEC) won their fifth straight. Makayla Daniels’s 17 points led the Razorbacks (11-6, 1-3).

#3 Louisville 63, Boston College 53: Kianna Smith scored 18 points, Hailey Van Lith added 16 and the visiting Cardinals (15-1, 5-0 ACC) won their 15th straight game. Taylor Soule led Boston College (12-5, 3-3) with 17 points and Cameron Swartz had 12. The Eagles had their four-game winning

streak snapped.

#4 N.C. State 84, #16 Duke 60: Elissa Cunane scored 23 points as the host Wolfpack (16-2, 7-0) stayed unbeaten in the ACC. Shayeann DayWilson broke through some recent struggles to scored 14 points for the Blue Devils (11-4, 2-3).

#5 Tennessee 84, #19 Kentucky 58: Rae Burrell and Keyen Green came off the bench and scored 14 points apiece as the host Volunteers (17-1, 6-0) remained the only unbeaten team in SEC play. Rhyne Howard led the Wildcats (8-5, 1-2) with 24 points.

#11 Michigan 69, #8 Maryland 49: Maddie Nolan scored 21 points — all on 3-pointers — for the visiting Wolverines (15-2, 6-1 Big Ten). Head coach Brenda Frese guided the Terps (12-5, 4-2) after her father, Bill, died of cancer Sunday morning.

#12 LSU 82, Vanderbilt 64: Alexis Morris scored 20 points and the host Tigers (17-2, 5-1 SEC) took control with a 23-9 third quarter. Brinae Alexander scored 24 points for the Commodores (10-8, 1-3).

#14 Baylor 82, Kansas 79: Sarah Andrews scored 25 points, Ja’Mee Asberry added 20 and they combined for the final seven points in the last 14 seconds to carry the Bears (11-4, 1-2 Big 12) to the road win. Holly Kersgieter had 25 points for the Jayhawks (11-3, 2-2).

Miami 46, #15 Georgia Tech 45:

Kelsey Marshall scored 12 points and the host Hurricanes (9-5, 2-2 ACC) clamped down in the fourth quarter for the win. The Yellow Jackets (13-4, 4-2), playing their fourth game in eight days, were 2-for-9 in the fourth quarter with seven turnovers.

#20 Notre Dame 70, #21 North Carolina 65: Dara Mabrey hit a season-high six 3-pointers and scored 24 points for the host Fighting Irish (13-3, 4-1 ACC). The Tar Heels (14-2, 4-2) got 22 points and two four-point plays from Deja Kelly.

Central Florida 67, #24 South Florida 51: In Orlando, Diamond Battles and Tay Sanders combined to score 37 points as the Knights (12-2, 4-0 American) snapped the Bulls’ four-game win streak and denied them the 700th win in program history. Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu paced South Florida (12-5, 2-1) with 14 points.

UCLA 71, Washington State 58: Charisma Osborne scored 25 points for the host Bruins (7-4, 2-1 Pac-12). Charlisse Leger-Walker’s 24 points led the Cougars (10-6, 2-3).

USC 73, Washington 66: Jordyn Jenkins’ 24 points led the host Trojans (9-5, 2-2 Pac-12). Nancy Mulkey scored 26 points for the Huskies (5-5, 0-2).

MEN

#14 Villanova 82, Butler 42: In Philadelph­ia, Collin Gillespie hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points, and Justin Moore scored 15 points as the Wildcats (13-4, 6-1 Big East) led wire to wire en route to their sixth straight win. The Bulldogs (9-7, 2-3) got 15 points from Chuck Harris.

#16 Ohio State 61, Penn State 56: E.J. Liddell scored 19 points and the host Buckeyes (11-4, 5-2 Big Ten) won despite shooting 38.6% overall and going the final 5:07 without a basket. Seth Lundy, the leading scorer for the Nittany Lions (8-7, 3-4) with an average of 14.1 points per game, missed a game for the first time this season.
