Though Matt Chapman went hitless in seven at-bats in the weekend series against the Giants, the A’s third baseman seemed to have found his swing on Oakland’s most recent road trip. He hit five homers in a six-game span against the Rangers and White Sox.

The A’s pulled Chapman from their starting lineup a little more than an hour before Monday’s game against the Mariners at the Coliseum because of a contusion on his left foot. He had fouled a ball off the foot during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to San Francisco. X-rays were negative.

Though he’s hitting .222 this season after undergoing hip surgery in September, Chapman is batting .250 with 10 homers in 144 at-bats against left-handers, compared with .208 and nine homers in 283 at-bats against righties. Moreover, Chapman is 13-for-30 (.433) lifetime against lefty Marco Gonzales, who started for the Mariners on Monday.

Chapman’s struggles at the plate haven’t affected his typically strong defense. He had committed only one error over his past 82 games, and through Sunday he led major-league third basemen in fielding percentage (.989), total chances (354) and putouts (135).

His departure from the lineup led to these changes: Josh Harrison moved from second base to third, Jed Lowrie went from being the designated hitter to being the second baseman and Sean Murphy entered the lineup at DH.

Medical updates: Starter Chris Bassitt, who took a line drive off his face in a game against the White Sox last Tuesday, was on schedule to have surgery in Chicago on Tuesday, A’s manager Bob Melvin said.

Melvin said Bassitt sent him a photo and that Bassitt “looks great. … The only thing that we’re really focused on right now is making sure the surgery goes well.”

Outfielder Stephen Piscotty went on the 10-day injured list Sunday because of a sprained left wrist that has bothered him almost all season.

Melvin said Piscotty and the A’s medical staff are considering options for surgery but nothing has been set. The expected recovery time for certain procedures will weigh in the decision.

“The certainties are he’s having trouble with (the wrist) right now and we’d like have him ready for spring training next year, too,” Melvin said.

Briefly: Khris Davis hit a two-out, three-run homer on a 3-2 pitch in the 10th inning Sunday night to give Triple-A Las Vegas a 13-11 win over Albuquerque. The former A’s designated hitter had gone hitless in his first five at-bats before the game-ending blast. Through Sunday, Davis was 11-for-34 (.324) with three home runs in eight games with the Aviators. … Alex Jensen, the Low-A Stockton Ports’ play-by-play man, subbed for Ken Korach on the A’s broadcast Monday night.
