PSG, Man City win Champions openers

Storied franchises Paris SaintGerma­in and Manchester City won their Champions League opening matches.

Even with forwards Neymar (suspension) and Kylian Mbappe (hamstring) absent, host PSG eased to a 30 win over 13time European champion Real Madrid, which missed the influence of suspended defender Sergio Ramos. The French champion relied on Angel Di Maria, the exMadrid winger, who scored twice with smart firsthalf shots.

Man City was efficient in winning 30 against Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine. Bayern Munich also won 30 at home against Red Star Belgrade.

The Women’s World Cup champion U.S. team will wrap up 2019 with matches against Sweden and Costa Rica.
