No. 3 Liberty stops No. 9 McClymonds

Three touchdown passes from junior Jay Butterfiel­d helped carry third-ranked Liberty-Brentwood to a 42-14 win at ninth-ranked Mc Clymonds Oakland on Friday night.

The 6-foot-6 Butterfiel­d, rated the eighth best junior recruit in California by 247Sports, accounted for the first three scores of the contest, connecting first with Brenden Bell for a 4-yard touchdown that put Liberty (3-0) in front less than three minutes into the game.

Butterfiel­d added two 19-yard scoring strikes, one to Sione Vaki and one to Darrion Bartley, before McClymonds (1-1) capped the half with a late touchdown.

Liberty scored three more times after halftime, with Tyerell Sturges-Cofer and Bartley each adding a rushing touchdown and Nicky Einess returning a fumble for a score.

#1 De La Salle-Concord 58, #7 Bishop O’Dowd-Oakland 16: James Coby returned the second-half kickoff 89 yards for a score and added a 30-yard TD run as the host Spartans (3-0) extended their unbeaten streak against Northern Caifornia opponents to 293 games. De La Salle broke the game open just before halftime with a 23-point spurt that took less than three minutes and featured two TDs from Henry To’oto’o and a 30-yard intercepti­on return for score by Isaiah Foskey. Shamar Garrett opened the Spartans’ scoring with a 40-yard TD run. Stanford-bound running back Austin Jones had touchdown runs of 34 and 80 yards, the latter to close the scoring, for the Dragons (1-1).

Centennial-Corona 35, #5 Pittsburg 7: A lengthy touchdown drive helped the visiting Pirates (1-2) even the score at 7 in the second quarter but the Huskies (3-0) took over from there, scoring 28 unanswered on their way to a win in a matchup of California state powers in Riverside County.

#25 Freedom-Oakley California-San 27: Ramon Offensive 42, #8 fireworks made for an entertaini­ng contest, but the visiting Grizzlies (2-1) rode three touchdown passes from senior Matt McCreary to a win over the Falcons (2-1). Gary Wendschlag scored on receptions of 16 and 53 yards and Cameron Fitzpatric­k hauled in a 28yard touchdown pass in the victory

#11 Valley Christian 27, Pleasant Valley-Chico 14: Michael Corini scored his second touchdown on a 24-yard run late in the fourth quarter to lift the visiting Warriors (1-1). Valley Christian was coming off a loss to Wilcox-Santa Clara.

#18 Rancho Cotate-Rohnert Park 30, #12 El Cerrito 7: Thirty consecutiv­e points put the visiting Cougars (3-0) in control as they rolled past the Gauchos (1-1). Jared Stocker threw two touchdown passes, one for 9 yards to Rasheed Rankin and another for 35 yards to Connor Barbato, for Rancho Cotate. Rankin also scored on a 1-yard run and Sumari Jones added a 40-yard touchdown scamper.

#16 Menlo-Atherton 28, #15 Mitty 21: At Foothill College, Justin Anderson scored on a 1-yard keeper with 5:27 left to break a 21-21 tie and give the Bears (2-0) the win. Shamir Bey threw touchdown passes of 6 and 59 yards to Jonah Advincula as Mitty (1-1) rebounded from a 21-7 deficit. Anderson had given Menlo-Atherton a 21-7 lead just before halftime on a 25-yard TD pass to Joey Olshausen. Bears nose guard Noa Ngatu, a Washington commit, provided a big play when he ripped the ball from a Mitty ball carrier and returned it 65 yards for a score, giving his team a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.

#17 Antioch 34, San Leandro 13: Willem Karnthong completed a 55yard touchdown pass to Gaudie Campbell midway through the third quarter to put the host Panthers (3-0) up 21-0 in a win over San Leandro (1-2), which got a touchdown run and pass from Cameron Stanley. Gabriel Cadigan put the game away for Antioch with a 15-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Aptos 56, #23 Aragon-San Mateo 21: A 72-yard touchdown run by Josh Powell late in the third quarter clinched this one for Aptos (2-0) over host Aragon (0-1), which got touchdown runs by Camron Grant and Paul Lautaimi.

Palo Alto 45, Half Moon Bay 7: Aiden Chang rushed for three touchdowns and Jamir Shepard returned a kickoff 88 yards for a score and caught two touchdown passes from Jackson Chryst for the visiting Vikings (2-0). The Cougars (1-1) got a 1-yard TD run from Tristan Hofmann.
