Linebacker Foster arrested on marijuana charge
Linebacker Reuben Foster, a 49ers’ first-round pick in last April’s NFL draft, was arrested Friday in Alabama on marijuana possession charges.
The news was first reported by al.com.
Foster was charged with second degree possession, according to the website, and bond was set at $2,500. According to statelaws.findlaw.com, a second-degree charge is filed when someone possesses marijuana for their personal use. It is considered a Class A misdemeanor in the state.
In a statement, the team said: “The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Reuben Foster and we are currently gathering all relevant facts.”
Foster, 23, a native of Auburn, Ala., was arrested by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff ’s Office.
Foster played at Alabama, where he was a first-team AllAmerican and won the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker in 2016.
He had been seen by many as an early first-round pick before the draft, but he underwent surgery for a torn rotator cuff and then failed a drug test at the scouting combine. When he argued with a hospital employee, he was kicked out of the event.
Foster fell to the 49ers with the 31st pick. Injuries limited him to 10 games in his rookie season, but he still finished second on the team with 59 tackles.
