No. 9 Notre Dame (9-2) at No. 20 Stanford (8-3)
Where: Stanford Stadium When: 5 p.m. TV/Radio: 70 /1050 Injuries: Notre Dame — WR Equanimeous St. Brown (concussion) and WR Cameron Smith (hamstring) are questionable. Stanford — OT Walker Little (undisclosed), CB Terrence Alexander (arm) and CB Alijah Holder (knee) are out. RB Bryce Love (ankle) is probable.
Story lines: The game is irrelevant to Stanford’s chances of reaching the Pac-12 title game because it needs a win by Washington to put it there. But it could affect the Cardinal’s bowl placement if Washington State wins the Apple Cup and the North Division. Notre Dame’s chances of reaching the College Football Playoff are done, but the Irish still can land a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl game.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Irish junior Brandon Wimbush, one of the best dual-threat QBs Stanford faces this year, has 1,569 yards passing and 704 rushing. But he has completed just 51 percent of his throws. He has looked horrible at times, like early in last week’s win over Navy.
Notre Dame’s offensive line, featuring two probable first-round NFL draft picks in G Quenton Nelson and T Mike McGlinchey, will be a huge challenge for DT Harrison Phillips and company.
Stanford LB Bobby Okereke has come on strong in the past month. With 73 tackles he’s challenging Phillips (80) and S Justin Reid (79) for the team lead.
