Carroll: Kaepernick a starter, but not with the Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says he believes Colin Kaepernick still can be a starting quarterback in the NFL. It just won’t be in Seattle, for now.
The Seahawks had the former 49ers quarterback in for a meeting last week as they continued to explore options at quarterback behind starter Russell Wilson.
Kaepernick is “a starter in this league,” Carroll said Friday. “We have a starter, but (Kaepernick) is a starter in this league and I can’t imagine somebody won’t give him a chance to play.”
Second-round draft pick Joe Mixon, a Freedom High-Oakley alum, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. The running back was suspended for his freshman season at Oklahoma after he punched a woman, breaking bones in her face.
Bengals owner Mike Brown acknowledged the risk of taking Mixon in a letter last month to the Cincinnati Enquirer. His comments came in response to public backlash against the Bengals selecting Mixon.
The Kansas City Chiefs released wide receiver Jeremy Maclin in a stunning move midway through their voluntary workouts.
The Houston Chronicle reported that former Raiders linebacker Sio Moore will sign with the Texans as a free agent after Houston cut linebacker Max Bullough.
Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta reinjured his right hip, which has been surgically repaired twice, during a practice session. Each time Pitta hurt the hip previously, the injury was serious enough to be considered career-threatening.
