Anderson eyes playoffs

-

Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson is pointing to a possible return during the AFC playoffs after having the meniscus in his right knee repaired.

The Broncos are expected to place their leading running back on injured reserve, which would put him out of action a minimum of eight weeks.

Although the Broncos hadn’t made the transaction by Friday afternoon, Anderson tweeted, “Was an amazing fun year all I can do is rest up get back for the playoffs and if not get back and grind 4 next season.”

Anderson had surgery Thursday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee three days after getting hurt. He has run 110 times for 437 yards and four touchdowns this season.

“He’s going to miss some significant time,” coach Gary Kubiak said Friday. Kubiak planned to meet with general manager John Elway and head athletic trainer Steve Antonopulos to come up with a timetable for the return of Anderson, a Cal alum, and a plan for his absence.

Rookie Devontae Booker will make his first start Sunday when the Broncos (5-2) host the Chargers (3-4).

Jaguars fined: Frustration over the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 33-16 home loss to the Raiders came with a cost.

Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson was fined $24,309 by the NFL after being penalized twice for unsportsmanlike conduct during one drive last weekend. Jackson was called for roughing the passer on Oakland quarterback Derek Carr, then protested the call and was penalized for using abusive language toward an official. Four plays later, Jackson was again called for unsportsmanlike conduct after a field goal and then ejected.

Wide receiver Marqise Lee, Jackson’s teammate, was docked $12,154 after he received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for using a racial slur.

On Friday, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley was still upset at his team’s lack of discipline, not only for the loss to Oakland, but in Thursday night’s 36-22 drubbing at Tennessee.

“It’s selfish and with those acts there are consequences,” Bradley said. “... Guys got to make smart decisions.”

Briefly: Defensive end DeForest Buckner of the 49ers was fined $9,115 for unnecessary roughness in San Francisco’s 34-17 home loss to Tampa Bay . ... Josh McCown, who broke his left collarbone five weeks ago, will return to the starting lineup Sunday when Cleveland hosts the New York Jets . ... Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett has been ruled out for Sunday at New Orleans with a knee injury.
