What’s on tonight

- — David Wiegand

The finale of the History Channel’s “Texas Rising,” with Olivier Martinez, above, about the Texas Revolution in the years after the fall of the Alamo, packs it in at 9 p. m. with an episode titled “The Rise of the Republic.”

It may be a bit fuzzy and downright inventive in the category of historical accuracy, but it’s done well for the History Channel.

AMC kicks off a new docuseries tonight called “The Making of the Mob.” The eight- part series, airing at 10 p. m., will be narrated by Ray Liotta and look at the history of the mob from 1905 to the rise of Charles “Lucky” Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and other notorious gangsters.

To get you in the mood for the mob, AMC will air the feature film “Goodfellas” at 7 p. m.

The second season of TNT’s “Murder in the First,” co- created by Steven Bochco, continues tonight at 10. Last week’s season premiere focused on a horrifying school bus shooting, with one of the student shooters escaping and the other getting wounded and landing in the hospital. The season’s crime will occupy most of our attention, but of course, we are also interested in the characters of S. F. cops Terry English and Hildy Mulligan ( Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson), who got a little personal last season.

Nicole Ari Parker, who played the D. A., is out this year. and her character’s “resignation” was announced in a ham- fisted “oh by the way” aside in the first episode. Hildy, though, seems to be even more torn between raising her daughter, Louise, and being a cop.

Still lots of San Francisco locales to keep things real, though.
