James Goldberg

-

James Michael Goldberg of Los Angeles, CA died peacefully at home on September 6. He was 73. James, better known as Jim, was a true Californian. He was born in San Francisco in 1945 to Barbara and B. Abbott Goldberg, moved with his parents and sister to Sacramento in 1961, met his future wife, Diane Colvin, while attending UC Berkeley in 1967. He went on to get his MBA from Berkeley in 1969 and a CFA before moving his family to Los Angeles in 1984.

Jim spent his entire career in the financial markets with a particular focus on bond markets. He loved studying and talking about markets and was proud of having earned the NABE Robert Perry award in Business Economics in 2014, one year after he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. He worked at only three companies for his entire career: Crocker Bank, Trust Company of the West (which he joined in 1984 to grow the fixed-income department) and Goldberg Investment Advisors.

Jim is survived by his adoring wife of 50 years, Diane Goldberg; his two children, Jeffrey Goldberg and Jason Goldberg (Rachel) and grandchildren Abby Goldberg and Jack Goldberg all of Los Angeles; his sister Judy Gilson (Don) of San Francisco; his brother-in-law Roger Colvin (Barbara) of San Mateo; and a large extended family.

Services are being held at Hills of Eternity in Colma, CA on Sunday, September 9. A remembrance is also being planned in Los Angeles. Jim’s family asks that memorial donations be sent to the Jethro Hu, MD Research Fund at Cedars Sinai (instructions can be found at https://giving.cedars-sinai. edu/make-a-gift).
