Victims who lost items to thieves are invited to a public viewing of recovered stolen property — estimated to be worth around $250,000 — today and Saturday in Kearny Mesa.

The viewing is being hosted by county sheriff ’s officials who hope to return the property to its rightful owners. Most items are tools and construction equipment, but electronics and other household items were found as well. Some of the stolen goods were taken from storage units and construction sites around the county, including Encinitas, Jamul and Alpine, officials said.

Detective Paul Oules said the thieves had taken the stolen items to a storage facility in Santee. They were recovered in early November when detectives executed a search warrant.

Oules said detectives have not yet made an arrest in the case and it is unclear if the thefts were committed by an individual or by a crime ring.

Officials decided to have a public viewing because of the large number of items found, and because they apparently were taken from all around the region, Oules said.

Anyone claiming property is asked to provide a sheriff’s case number, prove their name is on the item or show a receipt with the item’s serial number. If the property owner did not report the stolen item but can prove it belongs to them, a sheriff ’s official will take a report.

Those who cannot prove the item is theirs will be asked to give a name and phone number to sheriff ’s officials and a deputy will contact them later, officials said.

The viewings will be held at a sheriff ’s building at 5590 Overland Ave. in San Diego on today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The items will be displayed in the ICP building, which houses Sheriff’s Investigations, Crime Lab, and Property and Evidence.

Officials say those who plan to attend the event should enter the County Operations Center campus from Chesapeake Drive. The building is on the northwest side of the building, south of the gas pumps.

Man sentenced to 7 years for fatal stabbing in 2019 SAN DIEGO

A 36-year-old man who fatally stabbed another man during a 2019 altercation outside a Pacific Beach 7-Eleven was sentenced Thursday to seven years in state prison.

Desmond Alejandro Williams was convicted of voluntary manslaughter last year by a San Diego Superior Court jury for the June 22, 2019, death of Sean Paul Snellman. The victim was stabbed multiple times outside the 7-Eleven store at Mission Boulevard and Grand Avenue.

Medics took Snellman, 40, to a hospital, where he died.

Surveillance footage played for jurors showed Snellman punching Williams before the stabbing.

Deputy District Attorney Frederick Washington Jr. said Snellman was unarmed during the melee and Williams was aware the victim didn’t have a weapon.

The prosecutor told jurors that Williams saw Snellman’s hands were empty before producing a knife and stabbing him multiple times. The fatal thrust punctured the victim’s heart and one of his lungs.

Williams took off on a skateboard. He was arrested five months later — in November 2019 — in National City.

Defense attorney Giovanni Macias said his client lawfully defended himself against an attacker who had been aggressive with others at the store before the stabbing, and at some point had directed a racial slur toward Williams, who is Black.

Macias said Snellman suckerpunched Williams in the head, and said Williams initially held his arms up to shield himself from multiple blows.

The defense attorney said Snellman also held onto Williams during the attack, prompting Williams to defend himself against a much larger assailant who “didn’t stop (punching) until he physically couldn’t swing anymore” due to the stab wounds.

Williams initially faced a murder charge in the case.

In an unrelated case, Williams was convicted of torture and mayhem and was sentenced to seven years to life in state prison. That sentence will be served consecutively with the seven-year term he received Thursday for the fatal Pacific Beach stabbing.

Specific details regarding that case were not available, but a criminal complaint states it occurred in 2010 against a male victim.
