BACKPACK GIVEAWAYS SCHEDULED THIS WEEK

Groups providing school supplies, other services

Two backpack giveaways are scheduled this week in San Diego County, with a third taking place at the end of the month.

• ICNA Relief USA, a national domestic relief organizati­on that is part of the Islamic Circle of North America, holds its Back2Schoo­l distributi­on program from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bancroft Elementary School, 8805 Tyler St., Spring Valley. Students will receive a backpack, pencils, pens, notebooks and other essentials. Another distributi­on will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Farr Elementary School, 933 Farr Ave., Escondido. • San Diego County’s Child Support Services department is holding a Super Saturday event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday to give away hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies to all children who attend, until supplies run out. The event takes place at the department’s central office, 3666 Kearny Villa Road, San Diego.

Special services will also be available for parents from county partners, including the Live Well on Wheels mobile bus, to help with aid eligibilit­y; the Office of Emergency Services, to provide disaster preparedne­ss informatio­n; the county Department of Human Resources, to offer job opportunit­ies; the department of Animal Services, to help families adopt a pet (adoption fees waived in August); and the Public Defender’s Fresh Start Program, to help with criminal record relief. The Child Support Services department will also be sharing details on programs including High School Diploma support, Parents Invest in Education and Youth with Dreams.
