Gulls season opener
Gulls at Ontario Reign
Today: 6 p.m., Toyota Arena, Ontario
Last season: The Gulls finished 26-17-2-0 last season, good for third in the American Hockey League’s Pacific Division behind the first-place Henderson Silver Knights and longtime rival Bakersfield. The Gulls went 1-2 in the postseason, which was won by Bakersfield (6-0) while playing only teams in its division because of the pandemic. The Gulls scored 153 goals to lead the Pacific Division, but the defense was a problem. It allowed 142 goals, second worst in the division. Penalties were also a problem. The Gulls had 573 penalty minutes. No other Pacific Division team had more than Henderson’s 497.
Preseason: The Gulls concluded their 2021 preseason with a 5-2 win against the Ontario Reign at Toyota Arena. The Gulls are now 10-5-0-2 all-time in 17 preseason games, including 5-5-0-0 in designated home contests.
