Artwalk Carlsbad returns, plus Normal Heights street fair, more

Fine art, street fairs and free rugs for teachers are among the special events on the calendar in San Diego this week.

Carlsbad welcomes Artwalk

Artwalk Carlsbad is returning to Armada Drive on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25, after a two-year pandemic-related hiatus. The same team that organizes Mission Fed Artwalk and Artwalk Liberty Station also presents this iconic Carlsbad fine art show, which this year will be free for the first time.

The ocean-view event draws artists from throughout the region and across the country and features extraordin­ary art in every style, medium and price point. Paintings, glasswork, sculpture, photograph­y, fine jewelry and more will be on display and for sale.

There will also be live music and an interactiv­e art section called Kidswalk,

Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Artwalk Carlsbad runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25.

Get ready to groove in Normal Heights when the always popular 40th annual Adams Avenue Street Fair rolls in next weekend.

The two-day music festival is free and includes a lineup of 65 musical acts on six stages, including Starcrawle­r and Gaslamp Killer Experience featuring Drumetics. Carnival rides, beer gardens, food and 300 arts and crafts booths will also be available. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25.

The Craft Beer Taste will offer sips from 20 breweries for $25 from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday only across from the Starbucks Stage.

Rug giveaway for teachers

Coles Fine Flooring is showing its appreciati­on for teachers by offering a free area rug for the classroom from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, while supplies last. Numbers will be given out starting at 7 a.m. at Cole’s San Diego and San Marcos locations. Quantities are limited. Teachers must submit a valid teacher ID or certificat­ion and be employed at a public or private school in San Diego County. One rug per teacher, until supplies run out.

San Diego Spirits Festival

The San Diego Spirits Festival is shaking things up for its 13th year with a move to the newly renovated Museum of Contempora­ry Art (MOCA) in La Jolla.

San Diego’s annual spirits extravagan­za will take place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25, featuring unlimited cocktails from over 60 brands, live music and entertainm­ent, access to MOCA’S galleries and more.

Festival hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $85.

SD Ballet kicks off season

San Diego Ballet is feeling the rhythm as it launches it fall season with “Signature Moves,” a performanc­e merging Latin rhythms and ballet.

This program will feature two audience favorites, “Que Bonito Amor,” performed to live mariachi music, and “Mambomania,” one of Artistic Director Javier Velasco’s signature works.

Performanc­es are at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at Southweste­rn College Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices range from $15 to $45.

Cornhole for a good cause

The Lemon Grove Lions Club is hosting a Cornhole Tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lemon Grove VFW, 2885 Lemon Grove Ave.

Bring a partner: entry fee is $35 per person. Spectators are free.

The event will also feature food, beer and fun.

Proceeds will benefit causes including Fisher House, which builds home where military or veterans families can stay while a loved one is hospitaliz­ed.
