Shirley Margaret Ricketts

LEMON GROVE — Shirley Bogason Idle Ricketts passed away in the comfort of her home. Born in 1934 to Geir and Nelda Lindsey Bogason, she lived in the San Diego County area all of her life.

Shirley graduated from San Diego High with honors in 1952. After leaving San Diego State her freshman year due to illness, she married Wallace S. Idle in 1954, and together they had four children.

Always a gifted musician, she taught piano lessons to many in the San Diego area and generously gave of her time accompanyi­ng performers, playing for church meetings and various programs.

Shirley began her secretaria­l career with IBEW Local 569 in 1969, eventually transition­ing to the San Diego Electrical Training Center, where she took great pride in assisting Apprentice­s as they obtained schooling necessary to attain Journeyman status. There she was total office support staff for the administra­tion for over 10 years. Shirley enjoyed working for an Ironworker­s local union and a law firm before finally retiring.

She married the love of her life, Neil E. Ricketts in 1995. They enjoyed traveling, eating out, dancing occasional­ly and just being together. She missed him dearly after he passed in 2007.

Shirley loved playing the piano and organ, sewing, knitting, crocheting, the beach and sun, dancing, and talking to her sisters and friends. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sweetwater Ward. She loved and was proud of all of her children and extended family, and will be missed by many.

She was predecease­d by husband Neil, her parents, and her brother Robert S. Bogason.

She is survived by daughters Dana Morgan (Jim), and Leslie Redmann; sons Scott Idle (Debbra) and Paul Idle; grandsons Jared Morgan (Farnaz), Michael Morgan (Nat), and Logan Holsapple; granddaugh­ters Nicole and Angela Idle; greatgrand­children Darius, Malia, Bodhi, and Leila Morgan; her sisters, Joanna Taylor and Janie Breckenrid­ge, and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park.
