South Bay artists group presents cruise, contest

South Bayfront Artists presents “Art Aboard! See What You Can Sea,” a cruise and art contest, from 4-8 p.m. Saturday. Photograph­ers, artists, mariners and friends of the arts are invited on the tall ship Bill of Rights at the Chula Vista Excursion dock, 600 Marina Parkway. They will then have three weeks to submit photos or art. Details at southbayfr­ontartists.org.

Walk for Literacy coming Saturday

United Way of San Diego County and Traveling Stories host a family-friendly “Walk for Literacy” from 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Chollas Lake Park, 6350 College Grove Drive, San Diego. The event supports literacy programs for local children. Families and individual­s are encouraged to dress as their favorite book characters for a costume contest. Each walk participan­t will receive an event T-shirt, and each child will get a free book. Free coffee, bagels, and doughnuts provided, a Kids Zone will have games and activities, and attendees can browse reading- and book-related businesses and resources in the Vendor Village. Tickets for the walk are $25 adults, $1 children, and “Bookworms” can take part virtually for $10. Volunteers are also welcome. Register and/or donate at bit.ly/3tpl6bl. Fees increase after Friday. All fees and donations support Traveling Stories and provide one-on-one reading support for children.

Bonita Firefighte­rs host pancake breakfast

The Bonita Firefighte­rs host their sixth annual pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Saturday at 4900 Bonita Road.

Donation is $5. At 10 a.m., a time capsule buried in 1992 by members of the historical society will be opened. Call (619) 479-2346.

Chula Vista unveils new fitness court

Rohr Park in Chula Vista now has a modern outdoor Fitness Court with a supporting mobile app. This capital project is a featured part of a 2022 initiative launched by National Fitness Campaign, a nationwide consulting organizati­on that works with cities and schools to plan, build and fund healthy infrastruc­ture. The campaign awarded Chula Vista a $30,000 grant to help build the project; the remaining $150,000 came from Measure P tax money. The Fitness Court is an outdoor area that allows users to use their body weight for a complete workout. Created for adults of all ages, the court is adaptable for all fitness levels. The free Fitness Court App turns the area into a digitally supported wellness system. The court also features a mural from local artists Paul and Signe, of Ground Floor Murals. Register now for Oct. 1 run/walk

Register now for the Chulavista Champions 5K run/walk to be held Oct. 1 at the Elite Athlete Training Center, 2800 Olympic Parkway. Activities include a $5 pancake breakfast, kids games/ activities and vendor expo. Registrati­on is $25 for ages 17-plus, or $10 for ages 4-16, which includes a T-shirt and race medal. National City seeking unwanted PS4S

If you have recently upgraded from a PS4 to a PS5 and have no plans for your PS4, the city of National City would like to have it for its Casa de Salud ESPORTS Program.
