SAN MARCOS — Amy Soo Klopotoski was born Kim Soo Young in Seoul, Korea, on August 23, 1979. Just before her first birthday, she moved to the United States and was adopted by her loving parents, Carol and Bill Verge, who gave her the name Amy Soo.

Amy Soo was raised in Plaistow, NH, with her brother, Kevin Verge, where she attended Pollard School, Timberlane Middle School, and graduated as Valedictorian from Presentation of Mary Academy in Methuen, Ma. From Plaistow, Amy Soo went to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and then received a Master’s in Management and Scientific Technology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Upon graduating from college, Amy Soo dedicated her approximate twenty-year career to supporting our Armed Forces as a civilian employee in product development. Most of Amy Soo’s career was as a civilian in the U.S. Army based in Natick, MA, and, for the past five years, she was a civilian in the U.S. Navy in San Diego, CA.

Amy Soo had a passion for her work and was dedicated to supporting the teams with which she worked. Amy Soo also recognized and was proud, that she was a minority in the profession and hoped to see more people with diverse backgrounds ascend to leadership positions. While living in Massachusetts, Amy Soo met Dean Klopotoski and his three children – Sean, Charles (“Chuck”), and Rosanna. Amy Soo and Dean were married in 2010 and welcomed the birth of their daughter, Rebecca, in 2011. Amy

Soo was dedicated to her children, always available for assistance with homework, preparing their favorite meals, lending a sympathetic ear, and challenging them to Guitar Hero. Amy Soo was proud of Sean and Chuck, who enlisted in the Army, and of Rosanna, whom Amy Soo often bragged had tremendous artistic talent, independence, and intellect. Rebecca was the sparkle in Amy Soo’s eye. Amy Soo enjoyed spending “girl days” with Rebecca and never missed a chance to tell the world about how proud she was of the young girl Rebecca had grown to become. Once Amy Soo started talking about her children, she was difficult to stop.

Amy Soo is loved and survived by her husband, Dean; sons, Sean and Charles; daughters, Rosanna and Rebecca; parents, William and Carol Verge; brother, Kevin Verge, his wife, Sara, and their son, Liam; her aunts; uncles; cousins; lifetime friends; and her dog, Lily.

Although taken too soon, Amy Soo was, and will always be, loved. She is at peace and watching over her family alongside her grandparents, Ray and Florence, and Uncle Bob.

Memorial services will be scheduled later in the San Diego and the New England areas at a time convenient for family and friends to gather and celebrate Amy Soo’s life. Please sign the Guest Book online obituaries.sandiegouniontribune.com
