From high-profile sequels to comedies both romantic and decidedly not, actors with Texas roots are keeping busy in the new year. Here’s a look at what stars such as Eva Longoria, Ethan Hawke and Jamie Foxx are working on. Release dates are subject to change.

Hilary Duff: In what may be her biggest role since Lizzie Mcguire, Duff, a Houston native and one-time student at San Antonio’s Saint Mary’s Hall, stars in “How I Met Your Father.” The sitcom is a variation on the hit CBS series “How I Met Your Mother.” Kim Cattrall, who does not appear in the “Sex and the City” sequel “And Just Like That ... ,” appears on camera and narrates as the older version of Duff ’s character Sophie. Premieres Tuesday on Hulu.

Jamie Foxx: “They Cloned Tyrone” is just one of nine movies in some stage of production on Terrell native Foxx’s IMDB filmography. It’s a sci-fi mystery for Netflix that also stars John Boyega and Teyonah Parris. You might also soon see (or hear) Foxx in “Strays,” a comedy combining live action and animation about abandoned dogs out to get their former owners, and the movie “Day Shift,” also for Netflix, about a suburban dad whose pool-cleaning job is cover for his real occupation — killing vampires. Release dates for all three to be determined.

Jackie Earle Haley: San Antonio resident Haley stars in the dark comedy film “Death of a Telemarketer.” He’s a bad customer who takes extreme measures when a telemarketer (Lamorne Morris, “New Girl”) ignores the fact that he’s on the “do not call” list and calls him anyway. Available Jan. 25 on digital streaming services.

Ethan Hawke: Austin native Hawke has a couple of highprofile projects coming out this year. He joins Edward Norton, Kate Hudson and Leslie Odom Jr. in the ensemble cast of the film “Knives Out 2,” a new whodunit featuring Daniel Craig’s Detective Benoit Blanc. Hawke also will star in “Moon Knight,’ a new Marvel Comics series on Disney+ about a costumed vigilante.

Release dates for both TBD.

Eva Longoria: Corpus Christi native Longoria stars with Matt Walsh (“Veep”) in the comedy movie “Unplugged.” It’s about a couple taking a device-free vacation in a mountain town where they must overcome all kinds of obstacles without the aid of smartphones or the internet.

Release date TBD.

Bruce Mcgill: Hardworking character actor Mcgill, who grew up in San Antonio, is in the cast of “Reacher,” a streaming series based on “The Killing Floor,” the first book of Lee Child’s bestselling thriller series. Alan Ritchson stars as Jack Reacher, and he looks to be a pretty good physical match for Child’s imposing avenger. Mcgill’s character is Mayor Teale. Premieres Feb. 4 on Amazon Prime.

Jared Padalecki: Season two of “Walker,” the “Walker, Texas Ranger” reboot that stars Madison High School grad Padalecki, resumes this month. Show returns Jan. 27 on The CW.

Dennis Quaid: Houston native Quaid has a few projects in the pipeline. The most notable is the Ronald Reagan biopic “Reagan.” He stars as the 40th president and GOP icon alongside Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy Reagan and Mena Suvari as Jane Wyman. Release date TBD.

Sissy Spacek: Spacek, the Oscar-winning actress from Quitman in East Texas, will star opposite J.K. Simmons in the science-fiction series “Lightyears” for Amazon Prime. They play a husband and wife who for years have been keeping a big secret: There’s a portal in their backyard to another planet.

Release date TBD.

Henry Thomas: S.A. native Thomas is in a tight spot in the upcoming thriller “Crawlspace.” According to Deadline, in this film he plays a family man who must fight for his life when he encounters a gang of poachers in the Oregon wilderness. Thomas also will appear in “The Fall of the House of Usher,” the next Netflix series from “Midnight Mass” creator Mike Flanagan. “Crawlspace” opens March 31. “The Fall of the House of Usher” release date TBD.

Owen Wilson: “Wedding Crashers” was one of Dallas native Wilson’s biggest hits. In the very buzzy movie “Marry Me,” a wedding crashes on him. When a pop superstar ( Jennifer Lopez) learns her fiance has been cheating on her right before their public wedding, she plucks a fan (Wilson) out of the crowd and marries him instead.

Opens Feb. 11.

Renée Zellweger: Katy native Zellweger follows up her Oscarwinning performance in “Judy” with the true-crime miniseries “The Thing About Pam.” She plays Pam Hubb, a Missouri woman who murdered her friend in order to collect a life insurance policy. Premieres
