Überrito now serving in Northwest S.A.
A new Mexican fastcasual restaurant named Überrito opened Tuesday at the Fiesta Trails Shopping Center off De Zavala Road.
Überrito features a menu of buildyourown burritos, bowls, salads and nachos, with more than 40 fresh ingredients and toppings.
During the first week of opening, all burritos, bowls and salads will cost $5.
This is the first San Antonio location for the franchise, which operates five other properties throughout Texas.

Cuppencake turns off the ovens for good
Cuppencake, a bakery and coffee shop inside the Dominion Ridge Shopping Center off Interstate 10, has announced it has closed for business.
A post on its Instagram account reads in part: “That’s a wrap. Thank you to everyone who make Cuppencake their go to coffee shop/baker! We have
enjoyed serving every single one of our customers the past 5 years.”
Cuppencake opened in November 2014. It specialized in cupcakes, coffee and cheesecakes, but it also carried a lunch menu that featured soups, salads and sandwiches.
Dog Haus seeks more local spots
The California gourmet hot dog franchise Dog Haus has filed permit applications for two more San Antonio locations, making a total of three in the planning stages here.
Permits for the new spots, joining an application filed earlier this year for a location on Potranco Road, have been filed for 22503 U.S. 281 N. at Stone Oak Parkway in Stone Oak and on the Northwest Side at 11719 Quincy Lee Drive at Loop 1604 and Bandera Road.
The new projects, estimated at $800,000 each, are scheduled for completion by the end of March, according to permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. A filing this summer estimated the Potranco Road site would finish construction by the end of the year.
The Dog Haus website lists more than 45 locations, with another dozen or so on the way. The restaurant specializes in hot dogs, sausages and burgers served on King’s Hawaiian rolls, with variations such as the Cowboy (a baconwrapped hot dog with cheddar cheese sauce, crispy onions and barbecue sauce), the Soo Cali (a hot dog with arugula, avocado, tomato, crispy onions and spicy basil aioli) and the Mensch (a burger with pastrami and slaw).
Attempts to reach a Dog Haus representative were unsuccessful.
Freetail Brewing takes the gold
Denver was once again kind to the Alamo City. At the 2019 Great American Beer Festival there, San Antonio’s Freetail Brewing Co. won a gold medal in the Balticstyle Porter category for its “Snap Yo’ Baltics.”
It was the only San Antonio brewery to win any medals this year and one of only seven Texas breweries to win a gold.
“It’s surreal, and I’m greatly humbled,” head brewer Dan Leary said in a statement. “The Freetail brew team is a solid crew of brothers of craft. We all love beer, talking beer and discussing paths to improve our process.”
In 2017, Freetail won a gold in the aged beer category for its 2014 imperial stout La Muerta.
Last year, two San Antonio breweries brought home medals: Künstler Brewing won silver for its Chamuco (which translates to “devil”) beer, and Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling took bronze for its San Antonio Hatch Lager.
Since 2015, Freetail has been named one of the city’s top five breweries in the ExpressNews “Top 100 Dining & Drinks” guide, taking top honors in 2018.
