The A-List
OUR PICKS FOR WHAT TO SEE AND DO THIS WEEK
1. Concert
Soulful singer Boz Scaggs’ heyday was in the ’70s, when he scored hits such as “Lido Shuffle” and “Lowdown.” But he’s been making stellar albums rooted in R&B, like “Memphis” and “A Fool to Care,” in this century, too. His latest is “Out of the Blues.”
7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, 100 Auditorium Circle. $40-$250, tobincenter.org.
2. Theater
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center’s Teatro Salon, which helps develop new work, is presenting the children’s play “La Niña Girasol.” In it, playwright J. Cesar Duenas tells the story of a brother and sister trying to keep their maternal line from being lost forever. Clint Taylor directs. Opens Wednesday. 11 a.m. Wednesday-Thursday and 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Guadalupe Theater, 1301 Guadalupe. $2 to
$12, guadalupeculturalarts.org.
3. Movie
The early reviews of “Elvis” are mixed, with many of the naysayers focused on Tom Hanks’ performance as Colonel Tom Parker. But they’re missing the point, which is big-screen impresario Baz Luhrmann’s re-creation of the astonishment and excitement Elvis Presley (Austin Butler, in a star-making role) created at the dawn of rock ’n’ roll.
Opens Friday in theaters.
4. Album
Luke Combs, one of country music’s biggest stars, is back with a new album, “Growin’ Up.” Highlights include the single “Doin’ This” and “Outrunnin’ Your Memory,” a duet with Miranda Lambert. Available Friday.
5. Celebration
The daylong Pride Bigger Than Texas party is the highlight of Pride Month in San Antonio. It begins with a festival in Crockett Park featuring vendors and performances by the Live Oak Singers and other artists. The Queens High-Heel Race precedes the Pride Bigger Than Texas Parade, which kicks off at 9 p.m. 11 a.m. June 25, Crockett Park,
1300 N. Main Ave. Free, pridesanantonio.org.
