Woman facing charges of assault, fleeing cops, more
A 32-year-old Pontiac woman with an extensive criminal background faces multiple charges after she allegedly assaulted another woman and tried to ram her with her car Sunday.
She later allegedly crashed her car into two deputies’ patrol vehicles as they attempted to stop her from fleeing, authorities said.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began to unfold shortly before midnight Sunday when deputies were called to the Marathon gas station in the 500 block of N. Perry Street on a report that two females had been fighting in the parking lot. The witness stated one of the women, later identified as Nicole Shantal Collins, also tried to hit the other with her car, and as that woman retreated inside the gas station Collins rammed the front door of the building. She then drove away as deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said.
Several deputies got involved in pursuing Collins, attempting to block her as she drove erratically through the streets of Pontiac, the sheriff’s office said. She hit one of the marked patrol cars with her vehicle on N. Perry Street and then, as it appeared she was headed in the direction of Charles Lane Apartments, deputies attempted to block the entrance with their patrol vehicles, the sheriff’s office said. Collins crashed into one of them, drove over the grass and continued driving until she stopped in front of her apartment and ran from her car, the sheriff’s office said.
With deputies close behind her on foot, Collins then entered her apartment and tried to close the door on them but was unsuccessful, the sheriff’s office said. She was then taken into custody. Paramedics cleared her for jail, the sheriff’s office said, determining she had no injuries.
Collins was arraigned Monday before Judge Michael Martinez of 50th District Court. Her charges include::
• Fleeing, third-degree — 5-year felony
• Malicious destruction of fire department or police property — 4-year felony
• Assaulting/resisting/ obstructing police officer — 2-year felony
• Malicious destruction of a building less than $200 — 93-day misdemeanor
Collins was given a $25,000 bond at arraignment, with 10 percent required to be posted for her to be released from jail. Her next court date is May 21.
Collins has a criminal history which includes assault with a dangerous weapon, disorderly person, third-degree retail fraud, operating under the influence of liquor and domestic violence.
