Teen charged with entering autos
An East Rome teenager has been jailed without bond on multiple counts of entering automobiles parked on at least three different streets in Rome early Tuesday morning.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Tajai Quevonte Neal, 19, of 1311 Cedar Ave., was arrested around 4:30 Tuesday morning after entering three vehicles on Darlington Way, two on East Tenth Street and two others on Eastridge Court.
Police were initially called about two suspects entering vehicles on Darlington Way around 2:30 a.m. and saturated the area with officers. When they heard glass shatter they took off toward Eastridge Court where Neal was captured.
Less than $200 in cash, a .45 caliber handgun, a large stainless steel knife and other personal items were stolen and recovered from a book bag that Neal was carrying, including the handgun.
Neal was additionally charged with felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and misdemeanors for criminal trespass and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
About four hours later, around 8:30 Tuesday morning while being transported to the jail, Neal managed to maneuver his hands, which had been cuffed behind him, to the front of his body, where he unfastened his seat belt. The transport officer saw what was going on and stopped in the 1700 block of North Broad Street to secure Neal again, but Neal managed to push past the officer and flee on foot. A short foot chase followed before Neal, who was still cuffed, was recaptured. Subsequently, Neal was also charged with felony escape and misdemeanor obstruction.
Neal is also being held on an undisclosed charge out of Clayton County. Doug Walker, associate editor
Man charged with synthetic marijuana
An Alabama man who reportedly had more than 900 grams of synthetic marijuana was in jail without bond on a drug trafficking charge Tuesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Anthony Cordarryl Provens, 31, of 596 County Road 42, Hollywood, Alabama, was transferred from Bibb Correctional Facility in Alabama to face
charges in Floyd County.
The Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force got a warrant issued for Provens after finding him, on the morning of Nov. 21, 2017, with 902 grams of synthetic marijuana. Four or more grams is considered proof of trafficking under Georgia law.
Provens is additionally charged with possession of synthetic marijuana, possession with intent to distribute and felony failure to appear in court.
Report: Fugitive with meth ran stop sign
A Centre man was in jail without bond Tuesday after he reportedly crossed into Georgia with drugs while there was an Alabama warrant pending for his arrest.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Justin Lee Cunningham, 35, of 9093 County Road 33, Centre, Alabama, ran a stop sign on Reeceburg Road at Old Rockmart Road on Monday and was charged with a stop sign violation, having a cracked windshield and driving without a license.
Cunningham also is charged with the felonies possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute meth and being a fugitive from justice. He is being held on unspecified charges for Cherokee County, Alabama, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Police: Felon had gun with altered ID
A Floyd County man was in jail without bond Tuesday night, following a traffic stop that turned up an altered gun.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Joseph Ojonugwa Johnson, 32, of 44 Northside Drive, is charged with the felonies possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and criminal use of a firearm with an altered identification mark.
Johnson, who was stopped by police Tuesday morning on Chateau Drive, had a Taurus .38 special with the serial number scratched out. He’s also facing misdemeanor charges of DUI and driving without a license.
