The Puryear Detachment of the Marine Corps League is holding a Family Day from noon until 3 p.m. today at the American Legion farm, 500 Jones Bend Road. There is no charge and all area Marines — whether active duty, reserve or discharged — and their families are invited. The farm includes a large pond, and those attending are invited to bring fishing gear. Lawn chairs also will be needed. Award-winning grill master Terry Meadows, a retired Navy chief petty officer and chef, will prepare a meal of barbecue chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs. There is a free tax service being offered by the AARP at the RomeFloyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway, today from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Monday from 1-4 p.m. Those participat­ing should bring a copy of last year’s return and all papers related to income for 2016.
